Let’s look at the act of brushing one’s teeth, for example. It’s gone from using a powder on a stick to a toothbrush with bristles along with toothpaste to electric toothbrushes… to the next step.
You can see that future and other things coming right now:
Technology has changed how people live their lives, from electronics giving them the ability to do things – from cleaning their home to starting their cars. There’s a good chance that you may be reading this on your smartphone.
The smart technology can also be used for toothbrushes. Some current electric ones beep each 30 seconds so that you can brush another quadrant of your mouth and shut off after two minutes. Some use rechargeable batteries.
Now imagine a toothbrush that can tell if it’s being used improperly – i.e. someone is brushing too quickly or biting on the bristles …something kids do. It could even detect when it needs a new head of bristles and order them.
There are apps now for doctors to be able to consult with patients over their smartphones. The same is on the way with dentistry. A dentist could look at a patient’s mouth via a camera and take pictures.
This could prove to be a boon for people who live in rural areas and have to travel a long way to a dentist.
Patients often groan when they are told that they need X-rays. The bite plates can be quite cumbersome and also a bit uncomfortable. That’s a thing of the past with digital X-rays.
The best thing is that the dentist can see hi-resolution images nearly instantly and can do things like enlarge them on the monitor. It’s a great timesaver for patient and dentist alike.
Another benefit is that there is significantly less radiation exposure than with traditional X-rays. They don’t need to be developed either, which is good for the environment.
This is just the beginning of a new era of dental care. The above things will be refined and then eventually replaced by something that hasn’t even been dreamed of – just like someone from the 1940’s might see today’s electric toothbrush as science fiction.
The staff at U.S. Dental Medical believes in the future. They already see it with their own in-house dental lab, which allows them to make dentures for their patients in a fraction of the time it used to. Give them a call at 614-252-3181 to experience what lies ahead.
